After I had my son, I definitely noticed that my body had changed. But I decided to kick that can down the road and let it be a problem for “tomorrow Kat”. Tomorrow Kat is the woman who has to deal with my procrastination and usually ends up with a week’s worth of things to do in a single day. I blame ADHD.
3 years later, after wearing the most unflattering nursing bras for as long as possible, I finally decided to invest in some nicer undergarments. I was also noticing that my swimwear didn’t fit me and wanted to find something that I felt comfortable in. My first solution was to try to sew my own bikini. I bought really beautiful, expensive fabric from Spoonflower and then I shelved that project. Around that time, I had started watching Tiktok and one user had really great, informative videos about bra sizing. (I wish I could remember her name.) Basically, she made me realize that I’ve been wearing the wrong size my entire life. Her videos led me to A Bra That Fits, which is a bra size calculator. https://www.abrathatfits.org/calculator.php I love this calculator and can’t recommend it enough! If you’re unsure of how to measure yourself, there are plenty of videos and Reddit groups dedicated to showing you how.
After I posted about trying cold therapy, I was really excited to have a reason to wear my favorite swimwear during the winter. I really love my purchases and I just wanted to share what worked for me after struggling for so long to find something that made me feel confident in my own skin.
For reference, I am 5’3″, 120 lbs, and wear a 32 DD or 34 D depending on the sizing. Here’s the info on each item; there are affiliate links in 1, 2, and 4.
1. Freya Beach Hut Underwire High Apex Convertible Bikini. https://amzn.to/3QLxd1k I love this set so much. It has the support that I need and looks stylish, which is a weird thing to mention. I feel like when you start getting wearing bra sized swimwear, some of it just looks….unflattering. I also love the convertible straps. It feels like I have more support when I cross them. (I wear size 34 D in this.)
Not pictured, Freya Beach Hut Rio Scarf Tie Swim Brief (I wear a small.) https://amzn.to/3GGdbk5
2. Freya Jewel Cove High Apex Underwire Bikini Top. https://amzn.to/3ZB1R1b I’m really not sure if I love the Freya Beach Hut set more or this one. I love the ruffles, because they give a little more coverage in a cute way. (I also wear a 34 D in this)
Not pictured, Freya Jewel Cove Italini with Frill Swim Brief (also a size small). https://amzn.to/3kj4y7A
3. Athleta Triangle Tankini D-DD https://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=531208002&pcid=999&vid=1&&searchText=swimwear#pdp-page-content Originally when I bought this, I hadn’t discovered the bra calculator and ordered the wrong size (the A – C cup). I still wear it because I like the coverage for certain situations. For example, I wore it when I went surfing (horribly) in Maui. I normally like Athleta swimwear for that reason. I didn’t buy the bottoms, though.
4. Joyspels Sports Bras for Women Criss-Cross Back Padded Workout Tank Tops Medium Support Crop Tops for Women. https://amzn.to/3H9YgAd So, I know this isn’t marketed as swimwear, but I have worn it as a swim top. I like the coverage; it’s kind of like a long line sports bra with a cool criss-cross back. I also like that I can wear it as a sports bra for runs. It was also a Prime Deal a while back, so of course I had to buy it.
Here are some ruffled bottoms with ruching that make your buns look nice. https://amzn.to/3QE4b3D I have so many black bottoms that I didn’t really need to add another, but I figured why not?
5. Athleta Plunge Bikini Top D-DD https://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=530868002&pcid=999&vid=1&searchText=swimwear#pdp-page-content Another great top from Athleta. I love the coverage–it’s another one of those long line bikini tops that is flattering and comfortable. I also wore this one while surfing. Again, I ordered the wrong size because I didn’t know my size at the time, but I’m really excited that they now offer it in D – DD.
I hope this helps! Let me know what your favorite brands are! Also, if you tried the bra calculator, how did it go? Has it helped? It can be a struggle out there.
